On the eve of his 25th birthday, Sokuro, the son of Burkinabé immigrants living in Italy, follows the family tradition marrying Nassira, a girl from his home village. For him this marriage is the first step towards a future and return to Burkina Faso for good, but for his wife the marriage is a door towards the European Eldorado.

Mathieu Volpe (Rome, Italy, 1990) was raised by his Belgian mother and his Italian father in Bari, in the South of Italy. In 2009 he moved to Belgium in order to study filmmaking. His short documentaries have been presented in several international festivals such as Locarno, Torino, Dok Leipzig and Fipadoc. An Italian Youth, shot between Italy and Burkina Faso, is his first feature-length documentary. In parallel, he is developing Red Gold. his first fiction feature, produced by Les Films du Fleuve and recently presented at the Jerusalem Film Lab, where it won the Emerging Filmmaker Award.
