The powerful documentary about street riots in Hong Kong comes to Milan in collaboration with Pordenone Docs Fest

Here is a first preview of the programme of the 31st African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival (Milan, 29 April – 8 May 2022). We will present Kiwi Chow’s documentary Revolution of Our Times, an immersion into the reality of the 2019-2020 Hong Kong protests. The film recounts the events from the inside, restoring, alongside the courage and fears of the protesters, all the rawness of the front line: it is a tale of those incredible days, full of dreams, but also of violence and disillusionment.

After its presentation at the Cannes Film Festival 2021, the film arrives in Italy thanks to the collaboration between FESCAAAL and Pordenone Docs Fest – The Voices of Documentary which will take place from 6 to 10 April 2022.

A first screening is scheduled for Friday 8 April at the 15th edition of the Pordenone Docs Fest – Le Voci del Documentario, in the presence (online) of the Honkongers – members of the collective of citizens and authors of the film – and Ilaria Maria Sala – a journalist who has lived for 15 years between Beijing, Tokyo and Hong Kong, where she is president of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club.

Later, on Sunday 1 May at 6.30 p.m. at Cineteca Meet – ex Spazio Oberdan, it will be presented as part of the programme of the 31st African, Asian and American Film Festival, with an introduction by Andrea Berrini, writer and editor of Metropoli d’Asia.

The plot of the film

Revolution of Our Times by Kiwi Chow
Hong Kong, 2021 – 152′

The story of the protests that began on 15 March 2019 and the gigantic popular uprising that culminated in the long siege of the Polytechnic and ended up involving two million people, mostly young and very young. The film tells the story of seven different groups of protesters united in one big story of resistance. As dry as it is painful, it is constructed by alternating the testimonies of the protagonists and the incredible images filmed during the marches, demonstrations and clashes.

Revolution of Our Times will be released in Italian cinemas on 1 July 2022.
