Synopsis
At the end of the rainy season in the isolated Fouta region in the north of Senegal, Astel (13 years old) accompanies her father every day into the brousse so that the cows can graze. But one day, going from childhood to adolescence, the young cowgirl will inevitably have to leave the world of men and, consequently, her beloved father.

Biography
After having obtained a Master’s degree in Performing Arts with a specialization in Cinema and a Master’s degree in Screenwriting, Ramata-Toulaye Sy took part in a workshop on Equal Opportunities at La Fémis in 2009-2010, where she attended the screenwriting course from 2011 and graduated in 2015. She worked as a screenwriter on the film Sibel, presented at the Locarno Film Festival in 2018, and Our Lady of the Nile, which won a prize at the 2020 Berlinale. Ramata-Toulaye currently works in Dakar and Paris. In 2020 she directed her first short film, Astel. At present she is working on the development of Banel & Adama, her first feature film.
