Two official juries

The “Windows on the World” Feature Film Competition Jury awarded the City of Milan Prize to the Best Feature Film “Windows on the World” worth €8,000.

As per tradition, however, the Jury of 3 Italian journalists evaluated and awarded the Best African Short Film and the Best Film of the Extr’A Section.

“Windows on the World” Feature Film Competition Jury

Mario Brenta

President

Mario Brenta made his first fiction feature film in 1974, Vermisat, presented at the Venice Film Festival. He has been making films for well over twenty years, premiered at Cannes, Venice, Berlin and Locarno. In the past ten years he has devoted himself in particular to the cinema of the real, making documentaries together with Karine de Villers. He is also the cofounder, with Ermanno Olmi, of Ipotesi Cinema.

Karine De Villiers

President

Karine de Villers was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1965: she is an anthropologist and filmmaker. she made her first documentary in 1990 which obtained prizes internationally, as did her subsequent films, co-directed with Mario Brenta.

Sonia Bergamasco

Sonia Bergamasco was born in Milan, where she earned a conservatory degree in piano. She is actress and director, musician and poet. She has worked with theater directors such as Antonio Latella, Thomas Ostermeier, Jan Fabre, Thodoros Terzopoulos, Carmelo Bene and Giorgio Strehler. Awarded the Premio Duse for her work as an actress, she regularly directs and performs in shows in which her musical background is more deeply interwoven with theater. In film and TV she has worked with noted directors including Liliana Cavani, Bernardo Bertolucci, Giuseppe Bertolucci, Marco Tullio Giordana, Riccardo Milani and Roberta Torre.

Prasanna Vithanage

Prasanna Vithanage was born in Sri Lanka in 1962 and is considered one of the pioneers of the third generation of filmmakers from Sri Lanka. After having directed several plays, he has directed eight feature films including Death on a Full Moon Day (1997), August Sun (2003), Flowers of the Sky (2008) and With You, Without You (2012), winning many prizes both in Sri Lanka and internationally. In 2007 he produced the film Machan, directed by Uberto Pasolini in Sri Lanka.

African Short Film Competition and Extr’A Competition Jury

Paolo Baldini

A journalist, film critic and blogger. Since 2001 he has written for the Corriere della Sera. He has several film columns for corriere.it: Cinebussola for #DigitalEdition #ExtraPerVoi and the Recommendations of corriere.it. He curates the collective blog MarilynMagazine MM. He has been the editor of the daily newspaper of Piacenza, “Libertà”. He is a member of the artistic direction of Fuoricinema, now in its fifth edition.

Andrea Chimento​

A journalist and film critic, since 2009 he has written on the online pages of IlSole24Ore and in 2015 he conceived and since has been the managing editor of the web portal longtake.it. In academia, he has been awarded a Ph.D. in Culture and Communication from the Catholic University of Milan, where he has been teaching since 2015.

Sara Manisera

Sara Manisera is a journalist an author and director. She divides her time between the Middle East and Italy, working on women, conflicts, the environment, civil society and agriculture. Her work has been published by several international media including Al Jazeera, Libération, Courrier International, ARTE, RAI, CNN, Slate. She wrote and codirected the documentary Iraq: gioventù in prima linea (2019), the webdoc Donne fuori dal buio with which she won the Gold Dove for Peace and Iraq Without Water, the story of Iraqi environmentalists and their struggle to protect the right to water. Her latest work is La terra mi tiene, on wheat and on the fragile balance with the earth.
