Bringing the world to school through cinema

The fourth edition of the MiWorld Young Film Festival (MiWY), the first festival in Italy dedicated to the cinema of Africa, Asia and Latin America and intercultural education, will take place from March 20 to 27, 2023 and is aimed at fifth grade Primary School classes and all 1st and 2nd grade Secondary School classes in Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Marche and Sicily.
In a hybrid mode, between real and virtual theaters, screenings of 5 feature films and 10 short films from around the world will take place, enhanced by contributions from experts, filmmakers and audience commentary. The event will be preceded by training activities for teachers and accompanied by audiovisual language education workshops and a Masterclass for students.Targeted actions are also aimed at preschool and primary schools.
More than 90 school sites, 12,000 students, 1,200 teachers are involved.

This edition’s training proposals for teachers with MIUR recognition for professional development include:

  • an in-person start-up seminar, at the COE headquarters in Barzio and with an online session, aimed at 50 teachers from member schools;
  • online training paths;
  • participation in the faculty jury for awarding the Best Feature Film in competition at the 4th edition of MiWY.Realization of the 4th edition of MiWY in presence and online, in the presence of filmmakers and festival guests;
  • online masterclass by a director or other actor in the film production chain for secondary schools;
  • national Secondary School Student Jury to award the Best Short Film Prize in competition at the 4th MiWY.
  • production of a Kit for preschool and primary schools, containing one or two short films and teaching suggestions for independent classroom work by teachers.
  • image education workshops in some classes.
