Biography
Wang Xiaoshuai was a pioneering figure in independent Chinese cinema in the 1990s. His debut feature film, Frozen, is at the MoMA in New York. Wang has received many international awards: the Silver Bear in Berlin for Beijing Bicycle (2001), the Grand Prix of the Jury in Cannes for Shanghai Dreams (2005) and the Silver Bear for the Best Screenplay for In Love We Trust (2008). His films have been in competition at the Cannes Film Festival (twice in the Official Competition and twice in the Un Certain regard section), at the Berlinale, at the Venice Film Festival and at San Sebastian Film Festival. He was made a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Minister of Culture for his artistic merits.
