AfricaTalks: special event of #FESCAAAL31

A Rount Table and a movie to explore the creative side of a continenti in continuos trasformation

Il 31° FESCAAAL will host the fifth appointment of AfricaTalks titled Creative Africa. The future of cultural industries. A special event organized and promoted by Associazione COE e Fondazione EDU dedicated to the African continent and to its more technological and innovative aspects which will give an in-depth insight on creativity and the future of cultural industries.

Event will be held on Saturday April 30th 2022 at 6 pm (CET) at Auditorium San Fedele in Milan. It will be possible to take part to AfricaTalks also on Zoom, submission is subject to compulsory registration.
Alternatively, the event will be streamed live on the Facebook page “Festival del Cinema Africano, d’Asia e America Latina”.

The screening of the film Système K follows at 9 pm (CET), only in-presence at Auditorium San Fedele. The film is directed by Renaud Barret. Participation is free of charge. More info here.

Since 2017 AfricaTalks investigates trends and opportunities that are revolutionizing different sectors in Africa to actively contribute to the future economic development of the continent. Every year the event presents a roundtable with international experts and speakers followed by the special screening of a themed-film selected in the FESCAAAL program.

After the four previous editions – “Africa continent of the future. University and new entrepreneurship” (2017), “WWW! What a Wonderful World. How new technologies are changing Africa” (2018), “Back to the roots. Agriculture and food among old and new knowledge” (2019), “Cityscapes: the transformations of urban Africa” (2021) – the fifth edition returns to tell about Africa, this time focusing on the cultural and creative industries.

Meet the guests

Four speakers, from different perspectives and professions, will bring their experiences, reflections and case histories to confirm that the African cultural world contributing to the growth of the economy and internationalization of the continent.

Ojoma Ochai

UNESCO Consultant and until 2021 Regional Director for Creative Economy of the British Council in sub-Saharan Africa, founder of the newborn CcHUB Creative Economy in Nigeria

Sidick Bakayoko

Professional in the field of technology with over 15 years of experience in marketing and product development of technological solutions. CEO of the Ivorian start-up Paradise Game and creator of the FEJA Videogame Festival

Rémy Ngamije

Young Namibian writer, born in Rwanda, works as a writer and photographer. He is co-founder and editorial director of Doek! , the first literary magazine in Namibia.

Neri Torcello

Neri Torcello is an international art consultant and independent researcher working at the intersection of art and social justice, with an important emphasis on cultural dignity and the right to free artistic expression. Curator of AAVF – African Art in Venice Forum at the Venice Biennale

AfricaTalks 2022 will be moderated by Alessandra Muglia, journalist of Corriere della sera

The critical essay is written by Chiara Piaggio, writer and anthropologist expert of cultures of African countries. The essay is available for download here.

How to take part

AfricaTalks 2022 returns in-presence Saturday, April 30th at 6 pm, at the Auditorium San Fedele. Admission is free subject to maximum occupancy of the location. in order to participate online on Zoom is necessary to fill in a submission form available at this link o send an e-mail request to p.cattaneo[at]coeweb.org. Subscribers will receive the link near the event.

After the Round Table, at h. 9 pm (italian time), it will be screened at Auditorium San Fedele Système KbyRenaud Barret that witnesses some artists and performers’ life in the city of Kinshasa, between precarious conditions, resourceful inventiveness and incisive provocations.

The film will be available only in presence and not online.
